5 Steps to Help Protect your Garage & Home from Theft

Orange County Steel Garage Door NewA professionally installed electronic garage door adds a level of security to your home. The garage is the most vulnerable area of your home and even an unattached garage can make your home an open invitation to burglars. An intruder can gain access unnoticed and, perhaps, unheard.  Your garage is unoccupied most of the time so an intruder doesn’t have to be witnessed to steal your possessions or do damage. Also, your garage itself may have many resalable items such as cars, power tools, mowers, generators and other valuable items.

OC Garage Doors and Gates would like to make these suggestions in order to keep your family and property safe:

  1. It seems like the most logical idea possible, but making a habit of locking the garage door and the doorway from the garage locked will keep out burglars more than anything else. OC Garage Door and Gates can work with you to make sure you have the most secure locking systems possible.
  2. Burglars aren’t nearly as attracted to a garage that doesn’t have windows. If they can simply look into your garage to see what you have, they’re much more attracted and likely to break in. A garage without windows cuts the chances of an intruder trying to break in.
  3. Another simple solution is to keep your garage door shut when you’re not home or inside. It only takes a couple of minutes for a burglar to walk into an open garage door and be gone with your valuables. Make a habit of closing your garage door.
  4. A bright light placed above your garage door will do much to keep criminals away. A motion sensor works the best, but a light on a timer works just as well.
  5. A smart burglar can use what is called a “code grabber” that can capture a radio signal from your automatic garage door opener. Make sure you have a “rolling-code” remote that transmits a unique security code every time you open the garage door.

OC Garage door and gates would like to work with you when it comes to securing your garage door or security gates. We have the expertise and experience to make your home safe. Contact our Orange County garage door experts today.
